The partnership with Accton Technology Group in Taiwan sees Picocom’s PC802 chip and software used in Accton’s new 5G Open RAN radio units (O-RUs), and Accton will bring Picocom’s ORANIC in-line PHY/NIC distributed unit (O-DU) card to the mass market.

The PC802 started shipping in mass production quantities this month alongside mature software for Open RAN Distributed Units (O-DU) and Radio Units (O-RU), as well as integrated small cells. In addition, PC802 supports both 4G LTE and 5G NR.

The ‘ORANIC’ board is an Open RAN in-line PHY and NIC board, designed for 5G O-RAN O-DU data plane servers. The board has four PC802s, driving four 25G SFP Ethernet connections and interfaces to L2 software via the Open RAN SCF FAPI interface. It includes O-RAN Open Fronthaul interface processing is integrated directly into the PC802 and can drive up to 16 radio units (16 2T2R or eight 4T4R O-RUs).

Picocom has already signed deals for its silicon with SOLiD and BLiNQ and worked with Radisys on interoperability.
